For decades auto literature collectors
sought information on their favorite makes and
models, usually from their youth, through literature
dealers and swap meets. Now a new group of collectors
is emerging. Hungry for the profits they can make
on eBay, they sift through layers of "ancient"
boxes in attics and basements. The artifacts rarely
evoke emotion or meaningful responses beyond monetary
potential for these "archeologists".
The property usually belonged to older individuals
who have often passed on.

Frequently grand kids become
curious when discovering old auto photos and literature
owned by relatives. Seeing their parents as children
beside a completely unfamiliar looking car becomes
a mystery inspiring research. An old car and auto
literature collector in the making? Research on
the Internet leads them to car club sites and
literature dealers. Talking to these youthful
enthusiasts is quite enjoyable. The hobby is growing
in a new direction.
The shift in interest to historical cars and literature
from nostalgic is important to the growth of the
hobby and preserving the forgotten cars and literature.
Older hobbyists now concentrate on cars of the
1960s and early 1970s; younger enthusiasts find
that less interesting cars were built in their
nostalgic 1975-1990 era and the 1990s are still
too new to be of real interest. So they look at
