Buying literature collections can be a lot of fun. When dealing with the original collector we usually know exactly what we are getting. Other times we are dealing with a widow who knows little about her husband's literature other than that it probably reflects the cars they owned over their lifetime. Then there are those museums which have rooms full of boxes of "automotive paper" donated over the years. They usually have no idea what is in the boxes and could care less. We have cleaned out garages, attics, basements, storage buildings, warehouses and even railroad cars. As you can imagine, there are many surprises.

Once, many years ago, a widow showed us a room with about 2,000 books. After spending an afternoon evaluating the collection, making an acceptable offer, and loading it all in a trailer, the son noticed that we had some room left over. "There are some boxes of car literature in the garage if you want it, too," he said. A quick glance at the boxes was quite a shock. Here was the really valuable stuff!

"If you take them I'll have room to park my Cadillac," he said.

"Do you want anything for it?" I asked.

"No," he said. "It'll save me from having to haul it to the curb for trash pick-up."

After a thorough inventory of rare literature that we had never seen before, we made more profit on the "trash" than on the books.

It included a lot of miscellaneous literature that did not fit into our usual automobile and truck categories and can now be found under several topics. One that you may have overlooked is "Buses / Engines / Fire Trucks / Tractors / Trains". We have recently acquired quite a bit more that will fit in this and other odd sections of the website. Over the next couple of months you will see more of these items and something may jog memories of vehicles you have not thought about for many years.
