Most automobile and literature collectors recognize trucks as a small but growing part of the hobby. Prior to the 1970s few trucks were of any interest. Everyone likes old fire trucks, but that was about the extent of it. But then two significant changes occurred. The E.P.A.'s lack of pollution control regulations on trucks and the hippy era of psychedelic art on vehicles, especially on vans and pickups.

Truck literature of the 1950s and 1960s is scarce, and prior to that extremely rare. Naturally, with the advent of trucks becoming mainstream in the last 30 years for non-utilitarian use, the early truck literature is becoming very valuable — even more expensive than comparable car literature. The trend to seek out the roots to the modern truck is worth exploring. Is old truck literature interesting? Exciting? Or is it boring? As an old sports car enthusiast, I found it surprisingly interesting. Maybe you will, too.
