Going to auto races, auto shows and
concours are always memorable events, especially if
you participate in them. In the 1950s and 1960s I attended
sport car races. They were mostly regional events, but
the desire to go to Sebring or LeMans was a dream. A
Formula 1 or Indy 500 Race would have been really exciting.
In the 1970s through the 1990s I was into concours and
auto shows. The Auburn-Cord-Duesenberg meet at their
original home in Auburn, Indiana, Rolls-Royce Owners
Club National meets and those of the Classic Car Club
of America were annual events for me.
The clubs also had regional and local meets. For years
I never missed the Detroit and Houston Auto Shows. I
enjoyed all these events immensely. And I was fortunate
that overseas meets were not out of my reach. Attending
Bentley Drivers Club and Vintage Sports Car Club vintage
car racing events throughout England was very exciting
over 20 events during 30 years! Such memories
had made the old car hobby an important part of my life.
And I am not finished!
More recently I have been participating in Porsche Club
of America "Driver's Education" classes which
are actually high speed driving on the Texas World Speedway
race track for "wanna be" race car drivers.
Most of us save old programs. Some collectors appreciate
the photographs of the cars and the history of the races.
Maybe a car you owned, or one like it, appeared. The
same for show programs. Here is a selection for your
review.
