In the 1960s I discovered "The
Autocar" and "The Motor" magazines on
a newsstand. Here in the U.S.A. issues were quite expensive
and a quick read without being told, "Are you going
to read it, or buy it?" was a challenge. If I could
find some of the more exotic marques included there
was a chance that I would part with some cash.
It always seemed that there were too many Austin, Morris
and other less expensive cars discussed. So it was not
until the 1970s, when I could afford subscriptions,
that I read the magazines from front to back, including
those articles and road tests on the Austin. Later I
found old issues from the 1930s through the 1950s at
swapmeets and Austin became of more interest.
I rarely see any of those interesting prewar or postwar
Austins in America. Discovering Austin was worthy of
my time and I hope you will find them interesting, too.
