Salesmanship begins with eye contact.
You see something attractive and it catches your attention.
If the seller can "burn" the illusion of great
beauty into your mind, and can connect it with having
fun, enjoying the good life and the association of wonderful
people, you are likely to be lured into buying more
than just a mode of transportation. It is called "selling
a lifestyle".
Pontiac was exceptionally good at providing renderings
for brochures that were specifically aimed at potential
customers. Notice that the cars all appear lower, longer
and wider than they actually were. Artists Art Fitzpatrick
and Van Kaufman were masters of grand illusion and today's
photography misses the mark.
